  • Get Involved!
All Zona fundraisers are completely optional for our members.  If you join a Zona team, you will not be "asked" to sell candy bars, buy raffle tickets, sell cookie dough, etc. for Zona.  We provide fundraising opportunities so that athletes can earn individual account credit.

We want club volleyball to be affordable to all who wish to participate.  As a non-profit organization, we are able to participate in several great programs to help members earn account credit.  You can pick and choose the program(s) that best fit with what you are willing and able to do.  As with most things in life, the more you put into these fundraisers, the more credit you will earn.

Club volleyball is for everyone.  Zona provides the best opportunities in the state to earn account credit.  We have several members who fundraise entire season costs for travel teams.  It takes time, effort, and motivation--but it is possible.  Get involved and start earning credit today!

    Earned Credit
Funds raised by a Zona participant through individual fundraisers will be credited toward that member's account.  Because individual fundraisers are provided to help members offset the costs of participating in Zona, earned credit can only be applied to tuition fees.  If a member has unused credit on account and elects not to continue membership, the credit will be rolled into the general operating fund.  There will be no cash-outs, reimbursements, or transfers for credit on account earned through fundraisers.   Zona reserves the right to deduct a portion of any fundraised money to cover the costs of running the fundraiser.

    Gift Versus Donation
Because Zona Volleyball Club is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, donations made to the general operating fund can be tax-deductible to the donor.  Many athletes have been very successful in generating funds to help pay for season costs by sending letters to family and friends asking for help.  While this method of fundraising is very effective, the money raised is considered a gift to the athlete and is not tax deductible.  Any time a donor designates money be applied to a specific account, to benefit a specific member, the contribution is considered a gift, and is not tax deductible.

In order for a donation to be tax decuctible, it must be un-designated by the donor.

    Motivation and Return
We have several very good fundraisers available to our members.  The more motivated one is to earn credit, the better the return will be.  Please read through each fundraiser to get an idea about the time and effort required to participate and the potential earning power of each fundraiser.  Generally, the more effort required, the greater the return.  Get involved and start earning!

    Year Round Fundraisers
Zona offers several fundraisers that are in effect year-round.  UnitedScrip and all of the grocery programs are all available year-round.  For more information about each of the fundraisers, please scroll down.  Members, or potential members, can start these programs at any time.

    Seasonal Fundraisers
Zona offers various fundraisers throughout the club season that have a definite start and stop time.  Snack bars, phone book delivery, and the Accenture Gold Tournament are all examples of seasonal fundraisers.  Zona will add to this list as opportunities arise.  If you have a fundraising idea, please contact us.  We want to make club volleyball affordable to anyone who wants to play.  We will do what we can to turn a fundraising idea into reality.

    Program Basics
This program allows participants to order gift cards from various vendors.  For each card ordered through this program, the athlete will receive a percent credit of card value.

    Credit Amount Earned
The amount earned per card varies by vendor.  Please see the  order form to view the cards available, the percent credit per card, and the credit amount.

Please note:  UnitedScrip has control over the percent earned per card.  They change the percentages (up and down) periodically.  Zona bases the credit amount earned per card on the actual percentage given by UnitedScrip at the time of purchase.

    How To Participate
Think about the ways you can use the cards for everyday purchases (gas, grocery, household items, etc) and about the ways you can use the cards for gifts (holiday, birthdays, etc).  Determine the cards you would like to use in this fundraiser.  Contact Michelle to see if the cards you can use are currently available for purchase.  If they are available, we will bring them to practice or make an alternate plan to get them to you.  If the cards you want are not immediately available, Michelle will let you know when the next scheduled order date will be.

Payments for cards must be made before or at delivery.  We accept cash or check for card orders.  We do not accept credit card payments for UnitedScrip card purchases.

We will keep many high demand cards on hand--please ask!

    Benefits & Drawbacks
This is a simple fundraiser that allows you to earn credit for the things you buy.  The credit amounts for most cards are good.  The only drawback is that you must pre-plan your spending.

    Program Basics
Every time you use your Safeway Club Card when making purchases, your purchase amount is recorded on your eScrip account.  Additionally, any time you use a credit card registered through eScrip to make a purchase at one of their member merchants, your purchase will be recorded on your eScrip account.

    Credit Amount Earned
The amount of credit is determined on a monthly basis by eScrip and is directly related to the amount of money spent.  The percent credit earned will be 1-3% of the total monthly purchases.  You can track your purchases on your "My eScrip" account.  However, please understand that eScrip charges a service fee of approximately 15% your total credit.  For example, if you spent $100 during a month, you would receive a 1% credit from Safeway.  eScrip will take 15% of that amount, which would be $.15, as a service fee, which would leave you with an $.85 credit.

Credits are made on a monthly basis.  However, there is a lag time of approximately 4 months between the purchase month and the credit month.  For example, purchases made in March will be credited to your account in July.

    How To Participate
You must first register with eScrip to obtain your Supporter ID#.  You can have as many people as you know register and obtain an ID#.  Once you have the ID#(s), you must provide them (with the name attached to the ID#) to Michelle Malis by either e-mail or in writing.  If we have a Supporter and do not know which athlete account to link it to, the credit will go to our general operating fund.

How to register with eScrip:  Go to the eScrip web site.  Once you have selected Zona Volleyball Club as the group you wish to support, follow the screens until you have completed the registration process.  You will need to have your Safeway Club Card and any other credit card you wish to register on hand as you register.  At the end of the registration process, you will be assigned a Supporter ID#.  This is the number you need to provide to Michelle Malis in order to link the ID# to the athlete.

Remember, you must use your Safeway Club Card and other reigstered cards in order for eScrip to register and accumulate the purchases.

    Benefits and Drawbacks
This program requires you to register your Safeway Club Card (and other credit cards) with eScrip, which takes about 10 minutes.  Once registered and reported to Michelle Malis, you do not have to do anything else except use your cards when you shop.  Additionally, eScrip is a great way to have friends and family near and far help you earn credit.  eScrip is a win-win fundraiser.  Your family and friends do not have to do (or buy) anything except grocery shop (something they have to do anyway) and you get credit for their purchases. The downside to this program is that the percent return is not very high and there is a 4-month delay in the credit.

    Program Basics
Participants use specially linked Fry's gift cards to make grocery and other purchases.

    Credit Amount Earned
When you purchase a gift card through Zona, we will record the card number and the athlete's name. The amount of credit is directly related to the amount of money spent using the gift card.  As you spend more money, the percent credit increases, up to approximately 4%.  Each quarter, Fry's sends Zona a breakdown of the amount of money accumulated per card.  We then apply that credit to your account.

    How To Participate
Participants make an initial purchase of a $25 gift card from Zona, which can be used at any Kroeger owned store throughout the United States.  The gift cards are the same as cash and can be used to purchase items locally at Fry's Food and Drug or Fry's Marketplace stores.  Gift cards may not be redeemed for Western Union or Money Orders.  When the balance on the card runs low, participants can recharge their card with cash or debit cards for any amount up to $500 at a time.  Recharges may be done at the Customer Service desk or at check out before the cashier starts to ring the order.

    Benefits and Drawbacks
This program requires a medium amount of effort.  You must make an initial purchase from Zona for the gift card, but after than, you can recharge at your local grocery store.  Additionally, the cards can be used throughout the U.S., so you can get out of town family and friends to help you earn credit.  The downside is that you have to reload the card before you make purchases in order to get credit, so it requires a little extra effort at the store.  Also, the cards are like cash, so if you lose them, they are not replaceable (your will need to repurchase a gift card from Zona and resubmit the number).

    Fundraiser Contact
    The phone book fundraising coordinator:
    Mary Johnson

    Program Basics
With this fundraiser, athletes/parents deliver phone books throughout Tucson. The more books you deliver, the more credit you earn. The next delivery is tentatively scheduled to begin September 2011.

    Credit Amount Earned
Once all of the routes have been delivered, PDC will send Zona one check for all of the money earned by Zona participants. We will receive a breakdown of the routes delivered and will use the route information to distribute the credit. The only way we know who delivered which routes is if you turn in your route information to the phone book fundraiser coordinator (listed above).  Please make sure that if the parent/guardian has a different last name than the athlete you let the coordinator know so that we know how to link the earned money with the correct account.

    How To Participate
This fundraiser requires adult (18 years or older) involvement. The adult must be present at all times during training and delivery.

All participants (adults and athletes)must attend a training session before deliveries can be made.  The training session will be held at the PDC office (the office site changes every delivery--the coordinatore will have that information).  At the meeting, the adult driver must show proof of insurance, vehicle registration, and a valid driver's license.

After the training session, you will be able to pick up a maximum of 3 routes. Books must be picked up from the PDC office.  Each route is worth a certain amount of credit (determined by PDC). The amount you earn is directly related to the number of books delivered per route. The earlier you get involved, the better chance you have to pick apartment routes in your area. Once you have completed your assigned routes, you can get more routes.

The delivery of the books is more efficient if you have a vehicle with room to carry the books. You are responsible for getting the books to your routes. So, if you own a truck, you will be able to take more books and therefore deliver your routes more efficiently.

For each set of routes that you sign up to deliver, you have 3 days to complete the assignment. The books will be delivered for approximately 2 weeks (or until all routes have been delivered).

Please keep track of your routes (log the route numbers). Once you have completed all of your routes, please forward that information to coordinator listed above to facilitate credit distribution.

    Benefits and Drawbacks
This fundraiser is a great way to earn a substantial amount of credit toward your account in a short amount of time. It is vigorous work, but the potential benefits are great. Again, if you are interested, please contact the coordinator. Specific delivery information will be available as we approach the dates of delivery.
